The Importance of Saltwater Disposal in a Reservoir

Saltwater disposal is important to practically every gas, oil, and water company in the world, with a range of pumps often used to take care of these important water extractions. Artificial lift and saltwater disposal generally requires access to specialised equipment, such as hydraulic jet pumps, electric submersible pumps, gas lift devices, progressing cavity pumps, and rod pumps.
Hydraulic pumping systems are designed to transmit energy to the bottom of wells through the process of pressurised fluid. They are needed in a wide range of production well settings, including water wells, gas wells, and oil wells.

Hydraulic pumps are especially important for saltwater disposal, which is needed in most production well environments. Underground salt water can often get in the way and pumps are needed to extract water and other unwanted materials from production centres. There are two major types of hydraulic pumping systems used to extract salt water and other unwanted materials, reciprocating piston pumps and jet pumps. Reciprocating piston pumps are powered on one side by injected fluid, with the other side used to pump fluids to the surface. In contrast, jet pumps use a nozzle to pass the fluids through, which creates a venturi effect and push fluids to the surface.

Other than hydraulic pumps, other technologies can also sometimes be used in saltwater disposal applications. For example, electric submersible pumps consist of a down hole pump and an electrical motor, which transfers electrical power into kinetic energy in order to pump saltwater and other materials. Some other methods of saltwater disposal include gas lifts, PCP stators and rotors, and pump jack style rod pumps. Saltwater disposal is very important in many production well environments, and having access to reliable extraction technology is vital to any production well system.
